Fish

“Let food be your medicine.” Hippocrates

In Iran there are all kind of fish from North and South seas. I like white fish from Caspian Sea in North, specially on New year’s eve. Like America and Turkey on Thanksgiving, it is Iran with white fish on New Year’s eve. Iranians know how to make fish and I am not kidding! Enough bragging about Iran 🙂 Thailand is called the land full of rice and the sea full of fish. I am personally not a fan of most sea food, but when I was in Thailand, I was facinated by so many ways that Thai made them, specially their fish. I liked their fried fish with fried garlic and kefir leaves. Their baked fish with gingear and kefir leaves was so good too. In the US I found river fish more accessable to people who like to fish, but like me they are not heavy duty fishermen, so barbequed trout with garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper, and cinnamon is my favorite way of making this river fish delicious and healthier. Fish has high protein and low fat and because it has unsaturated fat and omega 3 fatty acids, it can lower cholesterol and is good for reducing inflammation in your body. The oily fish like lake fish have more omega 3 and they are healthier diet. Talapia and catfish in another hand are less healthy. Fish can reduce heart attack in adults and increase learning ability in kids. Eating two serving a week is good enough diet. Since heavy metals are absorbed in the fat under the skin of the fish, you can take the skin off and reduce the risk of consumming any possible contamination. However pregnant women should be more cautious not to over due using fish in their diet. So enjoy fish internationally! 🙂
