Rhoeo or “Moses in the Cradle” Tea

“Let food be your medicine.” Hippocrates

In Thailand I was invited to a flower festival in Bangkok and in that festival for the first time I tasted this unique tea, which was offered in two shades of purple. The darker color was made of more purplish leaves and the lighter color was made of more greenish leaves. It is a beautiful duarf plant with leaves that are dark green on top and dark purple under. The name “Moses in the Cradle” comes from the fact that it’s beautiful white flowers grow out of the inside of the pouch like leaves and it looks like a cradle.

The health benefits of this tea are reported as antioxidant & anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-diarhea, decongestant, and expectorant. So, it is good for soothing dry coughs, whooping cough, and for relief from inflamation like nose bleeding and lung problems. In South East Asia, they drink this tea mainly because it is cooling for the whole body. However, some people might have allergy to this plant and they have to be careful about it. Try it, you might like it! 🙂
