Organic Star Fruit

“Let food be your medicine.” Hippocrates

I was introduced to this crunchy sweet and sour fruit in Thailand. My Thai counterpart co-worker had a big star fruit tree in her backyard and looking at those beautiful shiny yellow star fruits somehow made my heart smile. One day I visited a home business in the village I lived. This lady made wine out of any fruit she found and she even made wine out of some flowers. I tasted some of her products and I couldn’t beleive how delicious star fruit wine was.

Star fruit is full of fiber & antioxidant (anti-cancer, specially colon cancer), vitamins(vitamin A, B, and C), and minerals (sodium, potassium, calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium, and phosphorus). Star fruit boosts immunity and has anti-inflammatory charachteristic. It promotes weight loss, healthy bones, healthy blood flow, balanced blood pressure, balanced cholesterol, and healthy heart. It also increases lactation in breast feeding moms. This fruit is famous for its benefits for healthy hair and skin.

You can eat star fruit raw in your salad or use it as a beautiful garnish. you can make star fruit jam or mix it with your shake. However, people with any kind of kidney disese or urinary problems should avoid this fruit.  Starfruit can have interactions with your medication and consuming lots of star fruit can cause kidney stone. Allergy to this fruit can cause gasterointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea and nausea. So, if it is your first time, start from small amount. Enjoy! 🙂
