Organic Sweet Potato and Other Potatoes (White, Yellow, Red, Purple)

“Let food be your medicine.” Hippocrates

Rice, bread, pasta and potato are a part of regular diet for people around the world and each one is predominant based on where you live. In Asia and Middle East rice, in Euroup bread & pasta and in North America potato is more dominant in their cuisines. For example rice is main dish in Asia and potato is a side dish or snack for them, while it is vice versa in North America. When I was in Thailand enjoying their rice dishes, people asked me if we had rice in America. They looked very sad when I told them that in the US potao is more popular than rice. They said you must be very poor in America not to have enough rice. Eating rice to them was something similar to motherly comfort and they were sad that we didn’t eat it on a daily basis in the US and instead we ate potatoes, which is food for poor in that part of the world.

These days unfortunately because of GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) and potato and corn being the first GMO produces that showed up in the market and FDA has approved them, it is hard to skip the known and unknown consequences of using them regularly unless you consume the organic potatoes, which have a lot of benefits. Potatoes are a wonderful source of nutrition with digestive & anti constipation, and anti aging benefits. They promote healthy skin, healthy bone, healthy heart, and balanced blood presure and blood sugar. If potatoes are prepared correctly and consumed moderately, not only they don’t increase your weight, but also they can help you manage your weight. They have anti cancer and anti-inflammatory quality, because of their antioxidants and vitamin C. The antioxidant increases by the dept of color in potatoes, a rule that applies to all root vegitables. Purple potatoes for example are loaded with antioxidant and they are great for increasing endurance in athletes. Sweet potatoes, which are different from Yam, are good anti-stress food and they can manage blood sugar. Potaoes increase immunity and in this time of the year I like to make hot potato leek soup with sage. Try it, it is so soothing, relaxing, and satisfying, you will like it 🙂
