Cardamom, the queen of spices, is one of the top expensive spices in the world that has been used for over five thousand years. I remember that the first time I tasted this spice was when I was a child and had a traditional Persian sweet called “Ghotab”, a pastry filled with almond paste and cardamom. Since then I have been using it in many other sweets, preserves, and even in dishes and tea. Cardamom has carbohyrdrate, protein, fiber, vitamine A, B, C , minerals, and antioxidant. It has a lot of health benefits and detoxifies body. It has anti-depressant and protects heart and gasterointestinal health. It is beneficial for dental health, prevents acid reflux & bloating, and protects from colorectal cancer. Other characteristics of cardamom are aphrodisiac, anti-asthmatic, anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial. That means it prevents vomiting, hicups, and infections from soarthroat to urinary infections. Eventhough cardamom has antimicrobial, but it doesn’t reduce probiotic bacteria in your intestine. Everyday I brew my jasmine tea with a few cardomom pods and drink a cup or two with orange peel and almond preserve. It is delicious and very good for you! 🙂
