Organic Gooseberry

“Let food be your medicine.” Hippocrates

I saw gooseberry in the market when I was in England, but last year for the first time I enjoyed picking them fresh in a local “pick your own” farm and made some delicious sweet and sour jam out of it . Gooseberry is sour and as it ripens turns from green to red to deep red, becoming sweeter. Like lemon and rhubarb it can be used in so many dishes for balancing the taste and served in desserts and beverages. You can also eat it fresh with your yogurt, cereal, or salad.

Gooseberry is in the currant family and it is native to Europe, northwestern Africa, and southwestern Asia. Gooseberry also grows in northern parts of the US and Canada, but people think the European kind is more delicious.

Gooseberry has many nutritional values. It is rich in water, fiber, vitamin B, C, and E, minerals such as copper & manganese & potassium, antioxidants, carbohydrate, and some protein. So, it is likely to help protect from obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and some cancers and fights brain aging and Alzheimer’s.
