Safron, the most expensive spice in the world, has varieties in aroma, taste, and intensity of the color. It is an exutic spice, dried stigma of safron flower, which is from iris family with medicinal values. It is expensive, because not only it takes a lot of stigmas to make small amount of spice, but also the cultivating and collecting them is all by hand.  It is used for thousands of years even in hippocrates time, It is native in South Euroup and South Asia and the best aromatic kind of safron has been produced in Persia, specially in Azarbayejan. It has lots of minerals and it balances blood pressure. It also has vitamine A, B, and C. The most famous effect of safron is its antidepressant quality. Plus it has antioxidant, anti insomnia, anti asthma, menstrual releif effect, relaxing effect on nevous system, and promoting digestive health. Safron promots uterine contractions, so pregnant women need to be caucious in using this spice. Safron has a beautiful orange color that just by a pinch can give color, taste and aroma to your cuisine. It is used often in Mediteranian and Asian cuisine, in food, ice cream, drinks including tea and other desserts. It is very yummy. If you haven’t tried it yet, you are missing out a good thing, but make sure when you buy it buy the real deal, because like any expensive item, safron has counterfiet too.
